Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can I tell my story?
A: Use the ‘Send Us Your Story’ menu on the right hand side of the screen. Using this form you can submit your story to be posted on the Come & See website.
Q: What should I do if I’m having trouble getting started?
A: If you need some help getting started telling your story you might find the following 3 steps helpful to guide you through the story writing process.
Step One:Think of a time where you have seen Jesus at work in, through, or around you.
This can be any type of situation but here are some examples: on a cross-cultural mission trip, serving with one of CPC’s domestic missions partners (like Urban Homeworks or Families Moving Forward), participating in a small group or Sunday Morning Community, worshipping on Saturday night or Sunday morning, on a Student Ministries retreat or at a House Group, caring for someone who is hurting or in a time of need, in a new members class, sharing your faith with a family member, a friend, a coworker, or a neighbor. This list is by no means exhaustive and is merely meant to get your creative juices flowing. Feel free to tell your story of where you have seen Jesus at work in any circumstance.
Step Two: Ask the relevant questions.
Who does this story involve? Where did it take place? What happened? What was the outcome (it is okay if your story has an ambiguous or unhappy ending)? How did you see Jesus at work in or through that experience? What has God taught you through the experience?
Step Three: Write your story in 1000 words or less and submit it using the ‘Send Us Your Story’ menu on the right of the screen.
Q: How can I tell my story without feeling like I’m bragging?
A: These stories aren’t about what the people of CPC have done but about what God has done, is doing, and will do in, through, and amongst our community. We want to be like John the Baptist pointing to Jesus instead of ourselves.
Q: What should I do if I have a story I want to share but some of the information is too personal or sensitive to post on the internet?
A: Some stories may contain information that could potentially be embarrassing or hurtful if shared on the internet. If you are having doubts about sharing some of the content of your story follow this simple maxim: when in doubt leave it out. Feel free to exclude or change information to protect the privacy of others. It is perfectly acceptable to change the names of people and places to protect both the anonymity of yourself and/or another person.
Q: What should I do if I’m still having trouble getting started?
A: Here are a few questions more to get your thought process started:
• How has God used an event, relationship, or series of circumstance to change your perceptions of God, church, or life?
• Have you ever had a conversation with someone or done something for someone (not necessarily explicitly about God or spirituality) just because you felt like God wanted you to do it?
• What epiphany, paradigm shift, or life lesson has God taught you, and what is the story behind it?
• What has God taught you about living a Christian life, and how did it happen?
• Have you ever received direction from God? Have you ever received direction from God in an unusual way?
• Have you found God’s grace in painful situations?
• Have you ever experienced God’s presence in an ordinary and unremarkable circumstance?
• Have you every experienced God’s presence in an amazing
• Has the story of another person inspired you to live, share, or explain your faith in a new way?
